PANJIM: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Thursday issued notices to Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) and Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) on the Baina beach beautification project based on the application filed by Goa Foundation (GF).
NGT will decide on the interim relief in the form of stay on the ongoing developmental works, as sought by the applicant on November 15.
GF director Dr Claude Alvares said that NGT issued notice to GTDC and GCZMA but could not consider the plea for stay as the private notice issued by them was erroneously dated November 27 and not October 27.
On Wednesday the Mapusa based NGO had moved the NGT against the Baina beautification project stating that the project site is in a no development zone (NDZ).
GF has sought interim relief pleading that the project proponent be directed to stop all development works and restore the beach to its original, natural conditions.
“The construction is within the NDZ of Baina beach. The area constitutes the NDZ in accordance with the CRZ Notification. Hence there cannot be any construction in the said area either govt or private,” the petitioner had pleaded.
The project aims at giving a facelift to Baina beach so as to up the profile of the beach and proposes several activities to attract tourists.
