PANJIM: The Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) and the Water Resources Department are among the 131 violators which have been issued show-cause notices by Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) for violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms during the last one year.
The information was provided on the floor of the House by Environment Minister Alina Saldanha on Wednesday.
Saldanha said that the notices were issued following complaints from the public and government authorities like Town and Country Planning, Goa State Pollution Control Board, GCZMA, Captain of Ports and District Collectorate.
She was replying to a question tabled by Congress legislator Vishwajit Rane, who sought to know the list of CRZ violators since March 2012. The list includes names of individuals, institutes and establishments. The violations are mostly for commercial purposes.
GTDC is involved in illegal construction of ground-plus-one floor at Colva, while the Water Resources Department has built a retaining wall of concrete at River Sal in Chinchinim.
As per the reply tabled on the floor of the House, the maximum violations are reported in North Goa. Violations are mostly along the coastal belts and Calangute tops the list with 33 violators, followed by Candolim (15).
The notices are also issued to the violators residing along the beach belts of Morjim, Mandrem, Colva, Benaulim, Anjuna, Palolem, Agonda, Siolim, Panjim, Bambolim, Dona Paula and Porvorim.
