GU-affiliated colleges to commence new academic year from Sept 1 via online mode

PANJIM: The colleges, affiliated to Goa University, will commence classes for new academic year 2020-21 from September 1 via online mode. 

The educational institutions in the State are shut since mid-March in view of COVID-19 pandemic. 

The University had initially decided to commence its academic year from August 1, following the directions from the University Grants Commission. However, the same was postponed. 

As per the circular issued on Tuesday, the Registrar Y V Reddy said that the University has decided that classes for the academic year 2020-21 shall commence from September 1. 

“The classes will be held via an online mode,” he informed Herald. 

The deans of schools, heads of university teaching departments, principals, deans of affiliated colleges are requested to bring the same to the notice of all the concerned. 

The University had from August 3 commenced final semester examination, while the second semester exams were cancelled in view of COVID pandemic. 

Also, the first round of online admissions for first year degree course has already been completed and students, who cleared the round, are in process of making payments to confirm their seats. 

Meanwhile, the technical education institutes are also tentatively scheduled to re-open from August 17, via online mode, as per the circular issued by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This was informed by Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant during the recently held State Assembly session.
