PANJIM: Taking serious cognizance of a sexual harassment complaint, an associate professor of the Goa University has been suspended after its Internal Complaints Committee prima facie ascertained the alleged incident.
A senior GU official said Vice Chancellor Varun Sahni issued the suspension order on February 9 pending inquiry.
“A MSc Part I student had complained of alleged sexual harassment on January 27. The VC took serious view of the matter and immediately forwarded the complaint to the GU’s Internal Complaints Committee for preliminary enquiry,” he told Herald quoting the order.
The committee’s preliminary enquiry found that prima facie there was harassment by the concerned faculty member. The victim student’s statement was recorded during the inquiry.
The committee submitted its report on February 3 recommending the suspension pending inquiry while also seeking further consideration by the VC.
