GU cancels Semester End Exams for FY, SY classes

Decides to promote students based on their internal semester assessment and practical exam held during current semester

PANJIM: In an important decision, the Goa University on Monday announced not to hold Semester End Examinations (SEE) for first and second year students of its undergraduate programmes, affiliated to various colleges, for the current academic year 2019-20 in view of Corona pandemic. 

The University has decided to promote the students based on their internal semester assessment and practical examination held during the current semester. 

In a circular issued, Registrar YV Reddy said that the University has decided not to hold SEE for the First and Second Year regular students of UG Programmes of B.A./B.Sc.(including Home Sc.)/ B.Com./B.B.A./ B.C.A /B.S.W. offered at the University and its Affiliated Colleges for the current academic year 2019-20. 

Similarly, no SEE will be conducted for the First, Second and Third Year regular students of  B.Sc.B.Ed./B.A.B.Ed, he said. 

“All students shall be graded based on the marks scored by them in the Intra Semester 

Assessment (ISA) and Practical Examination during the current Semester,” Reddy said.

In those cases where Practical Examination of the course could not be conducted, the same will be held whenever the circumstances permit. The results of such students will be declared on completion of the Practical Examination.

“No student shall be detained from moving to the next Semester. However, students who fail after  applying the above grading scheme shall have to pass the Examination for the course(s) in which s/he has failed, whenever the Examination is held next,” University said.

Reddy said that students shall also have an opportunity to improve their grades by appearing for the current Semester courses in the succeeding Semesters or through supplementary 

examinations.

The performance of students appearing for improvement of grades shall not be considered as 

an additional attempt.

Final Year Examinations of the said Programmes and Supplementary/Repeat Examinations

of lower Semesters shall be conducted from July 1 onwards.
