PANJIM: National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa Unit on Wednesday alleged that the Goa University (GU) student’s election was withheld due to the absence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Addressing the media, NSUI President Ahraz Mulla said, “The GU elections have been delayed this year as the varsity is waiting for Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to come back and then announce the elections. For 15 years, the elections took place in July when colleges reopened, however August is about to end, and in October the exams will begin, when will the elections take place?”
He added, “The 2017 GU elections were delayed due to the by-election, as they wanted Parrikar to win the election. However this year since Parrikar is not well, GU is waiting for him to come back to have the election.”
Speaking about the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), that recently burnt an effigy of Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Mulla said, “BJYM should have come out on the streets against the casinos or the frequent power failures.”
When the issue of formalin and Ketamine came up which touched the hearts of Goans, BJYM were not to be seen.”
