GU professor gets police summons for ‘sexually harassing’ female student

PANJIM: The Women’s Police Station Panjim on Thursday summoned an assistant professor of Goa University, who has been accused of sexually harassing a female student in his cabin. 

The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the professor based on the complaint filed by the victim’s father. The accused has been booked under Sections 354 (outraging modesty) and 354 A (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

According to the police, the incident took place last week wherein the assistant professor allegedly touched the female student ‘inappropriately’. 

A senior officer at the Women’s Police Station informed that the statement of the female student has been recorded and the accused assistant professor has been served a notice and has been asked to appear before the Investigation Officer on Friday.
