GU second among top Western universities

Goa University occupied the second place among top five western universities led by University of Mumbai, followed by Mumbai's SNDT Women's University, Ahmedabad's Gujarat University and Pune's Bharti Vidyapeeth in a survey conducted by India Today Magazine in partnership with research organisation The Nielsen Company.

NEW DELHI: Goa University occupied the second place among top five western universities led by University of Mumbai, followed by Mumbai’s SNDT Women’s University, Ahmedabad’s Gujarat University and Pune’s Bharti Vidyapeeth in a survey conducted by India Today Magazine in partnership with research organisation The Nielsen Company.

Delhi University continued to be the topmost university for the fourth consecutive term, while  University of Mumbai and Pondicherry University broke into the top ten universities, 

University of Calcutta figures at No 2, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, University of Mumbai, University of Hyderabad, Osmania University, Aligarh Muslim University, Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia and Pondicherry University.

The ranks were decided from among 170 universities on the basis of the perception score from interviews with academic experts and factual data furnished by the universities. The parameters included university reputation, quality of academic input, faculty, research, strengths, student care, infrastructure, innovation, admission procedure, and placement record. New parameters considered this year were security arrangements for students and global exposure.

As many as nine private universities are in the top 50. Five top private universities were Birla Institute of Technology, Pilani, Jain University, Bangalore, Amity University, Noida, Christ University Bangalore, and Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal.
