PANJIM: Agassaim Police are unable to take action against the Goa University security supervisor as the victim (female security guard) denied the charges made in the complaint by the hostel warden.
Agassaim Police Inspector Santosh Desai said the police had conducted a detailed investigation in the complaint filed by the Goa University officials and even arrested the accused who hails from Assam. He said that due to non-cooperation from the alleged victim, the police had to arrest the accused under Section 151 CrPC (preventive arrest) and he was released on bail.
“The victim was not cooperating with us and she has denied the alleged charges completely. We have asked her to inform police if any incident of harassment had taken place but till now she has not responded,” Desai said.
He said that a detailed statement of the victim has been recorded by the police in the presence of an NGO.
Following oral complaints from the victim and the students, Goa University officials had complained to Agassaim Police that a security supervisor was involved in harassing female security guards who were deployed on night duty.
The University has already sacked the security supervisor following the allegations and complaints from students residing in the girl’s hostel that he had been passing vulgar comments on students and entering the hostel without permission at night.
Goa University has assured that complete security arrangements will be revived and strengthened for safer campus.
