GU teachers, students hold protest; demand action against 3 students for flexing muscles

Allege trio obstructed and threatened university staff involved in elections of Student’s Council

PANJIM: The Goa University Teachers Association (GUTA) and other students on Monday staged a protest in the University campus demanding action against a student and his two accomplices for allegedly obstructing and threatening university staff involved in elections of the GU Student’s Council.

The University teachers alleged that Shirish Parab and his two accomplices were indulging in “goondagiri” within university campus.

Briefing media persons, GUTA President Ramrao Wagh alleged that in a latest incident, Parab had entered the office of Directorate of Students Welfare and Cultural Affairs (DSW) and threatened the staff.

Wagh lamented that University authorities had not taken any action against Parab inspite of repeated complaints to the authorities.

Wagh claimed that the trio were indulging in their act only because they were getting political patronage.

On the other hand, students under the banner of National Students Union of India (NSUI) too staged protest demanding against the three students. NSUI president Naushad Chadhuri alleged that the three students were members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and were flexing their muscles in the University campus due to political patronage, he said.
