TALEIGAO: Taking cognizance of the recent sexual harassment cases, Goa University (GU) has decided to appoint counselors for the benefit of female students.
Speaking to Herald, GU Registrar VV Reddy said, “The University is in the process of appointing counselors especially for the benefit of female students after the recent sexual harassment cases. At present the university just has a temporary counselor who visits the university on alternate days. The university has decided to appoint another counselor who will visit the campus on the days which the current counselor doesn’t.”
He said there is urgent need of hiring full time counselors for the university, especially for female students, and the university has also decided to put forward a proposal to the new government. “Once we get a full-time counselor it will benefit students as a new system will be made by which students who wish to meet the counselor will have to make an appointment and the counselor will call them as per the appointment,” he added.
He said that a student had made an oral complaint of sexual harassment and based on that an inquiry was conducted but with counseling students will get confidence of sharing their day to day problems.
