PANJIM: Goa University which has an open campus at Taleigao plateau will be revamping its security arrangements following a number of complaints from girl students residing at the women’s hostel.
Students have complained that the security supervisor has been sexually harassing the female security guards and also the students.
Speaking to Herald some of the girl students revealed shocking details of incidents at the women’s hostel at the University. They said that the security supervisor, employed by the security agency, has been sexually harassing the female security guards on night duty and even passing vulgar comments at students residing in the hostel.
Students have also said that the security supervisor would enter the women’s hostel without permission though no males are allowed beyond a certain area.
“The female students are in trauma and were even afraid of complaining because the university has an open campus,” a student said.
However, Goa University is taking strong note of the complaint filed at Agassaim Police Station, University Registrar Y V Reddy said. “The presiding officer of the internal complaints committee of the University immediately met the alleged victim to ascertain her allegations regarding the incident and thereafter filed the complaint,” Reddy said.
He said the security supervisor who was involved in the harassment was handed over to Police and they are investigating the case.
“Following the complaints and incidents, the University is revamping its security arrangements on the campus and also new female Hostel Wardens would be appointed,” the Registrar said. He said that there will be complete vigil kept on the entire university campus and such arrangements would be done shortly.
