Panjim police arrested the security guard, Sanjay Kumar Mallik of West Bengal, for allegedly assaulting and raping the woman. He was picked from Sanquelim bus stand within six hours of the case being registered. Police flashed his photograph to Karmali and Margao stations. He is being interrogated and will be produced for remand on Friday.
As per the complaint, the accused raped the woman after assaulting her, and fled with a gold chain and mobile worth Rs 40,000 approximately. The incident took place in a building on MG Road.
PI Siddhant Shirodkar said the woman works in the housekeeping section. Taking advantage of the fact that there was nobody on the floor, Mallik allegedly attacked and raped her. She sustained injuries for which she was treated and later discharged. The medical report has confirmed rape, he said.
Shirodkar added that Mallik has been booked under sections 325 (causing grievous hurt), 376 (rape) and 392 (robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.
