At the Sunday gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Sonia Dias, members discussed and deliberated at length the huge house tax arrears pegged at Rs 5 lakh. It was pointed out that many a household in the village have not paid the house tax for years now, ranging from 5 to 10 years.
After deliberations, it was resolved to serve demand notices on the erring households and recover the house tax dues.
The gram sabha also resolved to take up assessment of house tax after the recovery of the house tax arrears. The Sarpanch informed that the Panchayat has not carried out house tax assessment for years now, adding that the house tax assessment was done way back in 1999-2000.
Members underlined the need to carry out the house tax assessment since many an existing house or room have been expanded into spacious houses or bungalows.
The meeting also resolved to ask the power department not to shift the electricity office from Guirdolim village.
