MARGAO: The Guirdolim Gram Sabha on Sunday vehemently opposed to the construction of a flyover at the existing level crossing in the village and that it should come up in neighbouring Chandor.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha sought details of the railways plans in the village.
The panchayat informed that the NOC as sought by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation to construct a rail under pass at the level crossing was submitted albeit a month after it was sought.
The villager asked the panchayat to also seek details from GSIDC about the plans the South Western Railways has in the village as some villagers stated that the Chandor station was sought to be made into a passenger hub especially as there are plans to connect a loop connecting Konkan Railway to the South Western Railways.
The villagers were unanimous is rejecting a rail over bridge at the existing level crossing as one villager revealed that plans for the railway over bridge were prepared by some individuals. He pointed out that Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral had asked the villagers of Chandor to prepare the plans if they thought a rail over bridge was feasible at the site.
The villagers accepted the railway engineers’ opinion that a rail over bridge was not feasible at that site; they demanded that they only a rail under pass be built there. The villagers also demanded that the rail over bridge be constructed in neighbouring Chandor in the area close to the Mormugao Steel Limited.
