GUIRIM: Expressing concern over the pollution of a nullah at Parxet waddo, Guirim villagers have drawn the attention of the authorities to the water turning muddy.
The WRD officials have taken water samples from the nullah for testing and the reports of the same are awaited.
Ten days ago, a resident of Guirim, Dama D’Cruz in a letter to the Guirim panchayat brought to its notice the deteriorating condition of the nullah water.
Herald is in possession of the said letter which states that the colour of the water flowing through this nullah has changed and there appears to be a layer of some brownish substance floating, which has prevented the birds and animals, from visiting the site. He demanded that the panchayat find the root cause behind the water pollution and take the necessary measures.
Deputy Sarpanch Sani Nanodkar informed that an inspection was carried out by WRD officials, who took water samples to the Goa Pollution Control Board for testing. The nullah water has turned muddy and it appears like a layer of rust, which was more visible during high tide.
“We are awaiting the report which will be out in the next three to four days. This is the first time that a nullah has been polluted but it has nothing to do with the national highway work,” said Sani.
A local said the nullah water appears to have thick layer of rust floating on it. “We used to go fishing at the nullah but now feel that the water is unsafe. Hope the panchayat and local MLA will take cognizance of this at the earliest,” he said.
