MAPUSA: As a result of the
incessant rains of the past week, the ground floor of the Guirim panchayat
building has flooded, and the office has remained shut.
Fields on both sides of the National Highway 66 at Guirim
witnessed flooding and internal roads were in knee-deep water, which also
affected the movement of traffic.
However, expressing optimism, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik
said, “Every year Hotel Greenpark and surrounding areas used to get flooded.
Last year, the CM had inspected the flooded spot, but this year due to
desilting there is no major issue. WRD has assured to take up construction of
retaining wall and increase the depth of river for which they had asked for one
year. I am sure once this work is undertaken, the issue will be resolved.”
