Mapusa: Guirim Sarpanch Sunny Nanodkar was granted ad-interim bail in the alleged rape case by the District and Sessions Court in Mapusa yesterday.
The next hearing is scheduled for June 12 during which both the victim and the accused will present their sides and arguments. The court has directed Nanodkar to cooperate with the police investigation.
Also during the ad-interim period, if police arrest Nanodkar then the Investigating Officer (IO) has been directed to release him on bail upon the submission of a surety bond of Rs 50,000.
It may be recalled that the Mapusa police had booked Nanodkar on May 30 for allegedly raping a 21-year-old girl on the pretext of marrying her. The victim then lodged a complaint stating that she had been sexually assaulted for the last one year from May 2022 till May 2023.
Mapusa police registered an offence under sections 376, 506 (2), 420 of the Indian Penal Code and the accused was absconding since then.
