Guirim service road caves in; major pipeline ruptured

MAPUSA: In yet another incident highlighting the substandard work carried out by PWD and the National Highway contractor, a portion of the service road near Hotel Green Park at Guirim caved.

The incident occurred on Saturday early morning when the portion of service road on the western side of the flyover running towards Mapusa direction caved in. The portion which has been damaged is so huge that any vehicle passing by at that moment would have met with a severe accident.

Following the incident locals blocked the road to stop further vehicular movement and hence no injuries, casualties were reported.

Immediately, local police and PWD water section was informed since the main water pipeline was also damaged. It is learnt that the damaged pipelines resulted in caving of the road. As a result of the major pipeline rupturing, Guirim and surrounding areas were affected with no water supply.

“Damaged water pipeline has been traced and repair work is underway on war footing. Hopefully water will be released by late night,” PWD Assistant Engineer informed.
