MARGAO: With the press room in the South Goa Collectorate building being closed for almost two years, Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) has assured to take up the matter with the Directorate of Information and Publicity to put reopen it.
Rajtilak Naik, President of GUJ told Herald that the committee will see to it that the press room starts functioning at the earliest, so that service is made available to the journalists from South district.
It is pertinent to note that press fraternity of South Goa, besides NGO GOACAN had expressed anger over the closure of the said press room for the last almost two years. Shockingly, the Department of Information and Publicity had defended the prolonged closure citing the reason as inadequate staff to run the office.
“GUJ was totally unaware about the closure of the press room in the South Goa Collectorate building. We have taken the serious note of a news story appeared in the Herald and have decided to take up the matter with the Director of the DIP,” Naik said.
Sushant Kunkoliekar, senior journalist from Margao said that this press room at the Collectorate building should make available all the information related to the government functions or any other matter required by the journalist.
“DIP also needs to appoint one Public Relation Officer at the concerned press room. Journalists from South are finding it difficult to get any information from the Collectorate,” he said.
