PANJIM: The Goa Union of Journalists (GUJ) has condoled the passing away of senior journalist and GUJ member Anant Salkar. He was 59 and is survived by his wife and daughter.
Salkar breathed his last on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim, for the injuries suffered in a road accident at Chorao, while on his way home on October 1.
Salkar started his career with Tarun Bharat in 1994 as a sub-editor. He later worked as editor of Sunaparant, and assistant editor of Lokmat and Gomantak till his death.
A prolific writer and bibliophile by nature, Salkar was a poet par excellence and a translator.
His poetries and one-act plays have won several state-level awards. He is known for translating English poetries into Marathi. Salkar belonged to the rare breed of journalists who enjoyed command over Konkani, Marathi and English.
As per his wish, his body will be donated to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
