PANJIM: The Old Goa Police along with Garbada police in Gujarat on Saturday arrested Harish Bhai Bilwal, a native of Gujarat, for allegedly kidnapping a minor girl to Goa.
The accused was allegedly planning to take the victim to Gujarat to get her forcefully married.
Following a complaint, the Garbada police contacted Old Goa Police and were in coordination and collected information and narrowed traced the location of the accused somewhere around St Cruz. Three teams from the Old Goa police station were formed who conducted search along with Garbada police and nabbed the accused at Bambolim.
It is tradition in some part of Gujarat to take away girls and get them forcefully married. Later matters are settled within families and the marriage is accepted in most cases. But in this case, the marriage will not be settled as a petition was filed in High Court by the victim’s father.
The accused was absconding for three months and had changed few locations with the victim.
The Garbada police took the accused to Gujarat for further investigation.
