MARGAO: The 27-year-old native of Gulbarga-Karnataka who was accused of murdering Luis Paulo Baptista, a resident of Carvota-Loutolim on October 5, 2012 has been held guilty and convicted for murder.
South Goa Additional Sessions Court Judge Vincent D’silva convicted accused Santosh Pujari, 27 years, hailing from Gulbarga and residing at Carvota Loutulim under Sections 302 and 201 IPC for murder and destroying evidence. The Court will decide on the quantum of sentence on January 15.
It is was the case of the prosecution case that on October 5, 2012 at 11pm accused Pujari, a labourer, residing in front of Dinesh Mota’s house at Carvota murdered Luis Paulo Baptista inflicting serious injuries in brutal manner with sharp weapon on head, face, hands and other parts of body.
The accused used “koita” to murder the deceased inflicting serious injuries. After the murder, accused Pujari destroyed evidence by washing cloths worn by him and to have also concealed the “koita” which was recovered at the instance of accused. A total of 11 witnesses were examined by prosecution including investigating officer Maina Curtorim PI Gurudas Kadam.
The state was represented by PP Asha Kamat Arsekar.
