MARGAO: Gusty winds in the morning resulted in many trees getting either uprooted or breaking and asbestos sheets of some buildings getting blown off; this kept the staff of the Fire and Emergency Services on their toes the whole day.
A little after 8 am, when people were in the Church for the Sunday services, strong winds assailed Margao causing a lot of disruption and chaos.
The roofing of the Fatorda Stadium behind the Damodar temple was blown off and lying on the road which disrupted the flow of traffic for some time.
Similarly the roofing of a building near Carmelite Monastery was also blown off however, this incident was not reported to the Fire and Emergency Services.
The staff of Fire and Emergency Services attended 22 calls of either trees uprooting or breaking and falling on the road side. By late evening at around 6 pm they were still attending to seven other calls with five teams on the site and the other two calls waiting to be attended to.
