PANJIM: Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai disbursed financial assistance to 160 cancer patients in the State from the Governor’s discretionary fund at a programme held at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, M R M Rao, IAS, Secretary to Governor and Sanjeev C Gauns Dessai, Additional Secretary to the Governor were present. First Lady Rita Sreedharan Pillai also graced the occasion.
Addressing the people, Kamat said, this is a small attempt of Raj Bhavan to ease the pain and the health of the people in distress in the State. The Head of the State is providing this help to reduce anxiety among the affected families, he added.
Thanking the Governor on behalf of all the patients, Kamat informed that almighty God is always ready to help the person who helps the poor and distressed section of the society.
The Governor, earlier had visited a number of NGOs and disbursed financial assistance personally at the doorsteps of these institutions. Further, during the Goa Gram Sampurna Yatra, the Governor visited the length and breadth of the State and distributed financial assistance to dialysis/cancer/other patients from the Governor’s discretionary fund. Earlier, M R M Rao, IAS welcomed the guests.
Pillai called for collective efforts for enrichment of Kaavi art as the State had a wonderful heritage. One of the distinctive features of Art Heritage has been the prevalence of Kaavi art, which is a traditional technique of painting, the Governor added. He was speaking after inaugurating the Kaavi art workshop organised by the Raj Bhavan Goa at new Durbar Hall, Dona Paula on Wednesday.
First Lady K Rita Sreedharan Pillai also graced the occasion.
Expressing the motive behind organising the four-day Kaavi art workshop, the Governor said, this format of art is very unique which is visible in temples, churches and some of the heritage homes of Goa, which needs to be further encouraged.
He underscored the initiatives of the Prime Minister and emphasised the importance given to this form of art in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ monthly programme. Margao MLA Digambar Kamat said that the present Governor had crossed all the boundaries of Raj Bhavan and had become peoples Governor. Extending his best wishes to all the initiatives of the Governor, he said the Governor had set a precedent for others to emulate. To organise such a workshop at Raj Bhavan is a great honour to the Goan artists, Kamat said and complimented the Governor for the initiatives taken to keep this art alive and to reach out to new budding artists.
