Porvorim: After staging a walkout during the Governor’s address, Leader of Opposition Babu Kavlekar said the Governor Mridula Sinha has time and again ignored their demands and hence they decided to boycott her address.
“Whenever we went to her with requests on behalf of MLAs and Goans she never accepted. First, she should have invited Congress to form the government as Congress was single largest party but she did exactly the opposite,” Kavlekar said.
He said that thereafter when the administration had collapsed due to CMs illness and nothing was moving the Congress leaders met her four times.
“We requested her to dismiss the government and allow us to prove majority. She welcomed us and gave us a patient hearing but she never acted on our requests or demands,” he said. Kavlekar said the demands were not pertaining to Congress MLAs but of the people of Goa.
“The Governor should have used her powers and dismissed the government. Forget that she did not even make efforts to streamline the administration,” she said.
On today’s boycott, the Opposition leader said, “we welcomed her in the assembly and even escorted her out but we decided to boycott her speech as she always ignored us”.
Kavlekar said the Congress party had also demanded that last year the assembly was held for just 16 days assembly and hence we wanted her to extend the sittings of the House.
“We wanted more days as there are many issues including mining, CRZ notification etc but she did not listen,” he said.
adding “Today it was Governor’s address and budget tomorrow, where do we have time to discuss people’s issues?”
