TALEIGAO: Goa Governor Mridula Sinha on Saturday asked students to take an oath that they will not break their marriage on petty issues, that they will keep off from drugs and not send their parents to old age homes. She also suggested that a pre-marriage counselling centre be set up at Goa University (GU).
Speaking at the 30th Convocation of Goa University (GU) in the presence of President of India Ram Nath Kovind, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Vice-Chancellor Varun Sahni, Sinha said, “There is a need to set up pre-marriage counselling for the youth in Goa University. Youth should also know to run the family. If they have any questions related to marriage, then they should be answered for their successful married life.”
She added, “At any time where you see an atrocity against a girl or a woman, you shall strive to rescue her at the cost of your life. This is critical for protection of Indian culture. It is a very important pledge and I am happy that everyone is supporting it.”
The Governor also sought five promises from the students present for convocation, including not to send their parents to homes for the aged.
“Marriage is necessary and that is why you will not break the marriage on petty issues. You will make your marriage successful and will respect each other,” was the second promise.
In the third promise, she appealed to youth to fight with their life against any injustice meted out to women. Sinha, who is also an ambassador of Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan, made the youth promise they will keep their environment clean.
She also appealed to them not to fall prey to banned substances or intoxication and fight to stop any attempts to spread it.
