Guv to bring Raj Bhavan under purview of RTI Act

PANJIM: In a major statement, Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai on Saturday announced to bring Raj Bhavan under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The announcement comes almost three years after former Governor late Dr Mridula Sinha, in a written submission before the Goa State Information Commission (GSIC) said that Raj Bhavan does not come under the purview of the RTI Act as the Governor is not a “Public Authority”.

During an event hosted by a local news channel, Goa Governor said that he is ready to bring Raj Bhavan under the ambit of RTI.

“I am ready to accept the supremacy of people and put records of Raj Bhavan in public domain,” he said.

Social activist and Advocate Aires Rodrigues, had in August, petitioned Pillai to bring Raj Bhavan under RTI ambit.

Adv Rodrigues in a letter to the Governor stated that all Raj Bhavans across the country and even the Rashtrapati Bhavan come under the purview of the Act, which was enacted to ensure transparency and accountability in governance.
