PANJIM: As announced on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 71st birthday, Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai will on Friday disburse one-time financial assistance to old-age homes and other institutions as well as patients undergoing dialysis treatment.
Though, the Governor had announced financial support to 71 old-age homes and institutions from the Discretionary Fund, on Friday, assistance would be disbursed to 29 such institutions and 31 dialysis patients.
“This is a unique initiative undertaken by Raj Bhavan to reach out to a wider section of weak and under privileged people,” said Secretary to Governor Mihir Vardhan.
Vardhan said that post Governor’s announcement on Prime Minister’s birthday, last month; official advertisement was issued inviting applications from the NGOs and individuals.
“In response to the advertisement, a good number of individuals and institutions had applied for financial aid. Accordingly, after scrutiny, we have got so far, 29 institutions and 31 patients,” he said.
Along with the Governor, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Minister for Revenue Jennifer Monserrate, Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat, Sadguru Brhmeshanandacharya- Tapobhoomi and Archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao, will preside over the function.
Besides, the distribution of financial aid, Vardhan said that the Governor will undertake field visits to the institutions to meet and interact with the inmates of the old-age homes, orphanages during the month of October-November.
Further, also as part of Green World, Clean World programme, on October 12, Raj Bhavan will undertake plantation of Vietnam variety 71 jackfruits samplings in its garden.
Vardhan said that plant bears fruit within a period of one year.
