GVP supremo reveals plans to merge party with UGDP

MARGAO: Goa Vikas Party (GVP) Supremo Francisco Xavier Pacheco, alias Mickky has revealed his plans to merge his party with the United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP).

Addressing a press conference in Margao on Monday, Mickky said, “There’s is a proposal to merge GVP with UGDP and the executive committees of both parties held initial talks. Individual meetings on the proposed merger have taken place with UGDP and myself discussing the same with GVP members. Let them hold a meeting now and take a call. If there is a merger we will contest the polls together, if there is no merger I am capable of going all alone”
Speaking about his experience of being a coalition partner in BJP-led government, he said, “My party has been tainted by being in the coalition with the BJP. Hence I am planning a merge with the UGDP.”
Pointing out the inconsistencies in the BJP Government, he said, “Even this government couldn’t do anything for Goans and the issues pending for over 15 years, which were expected to be solved, have remained unsolved.
Speaking on “Mahagathbandhan”, Micckky said, “I have heard a lot of discussions on “mahagathbandhan” but I realised that after supporting national parties they have failed to solve the issues.”
Commenting on the recent poll surveys in the electronic and print media, Mickky said, “I came across some news on poll surveys in the electronic and print media. I have observed that the views expressed in these surveys are not right. I appeal to the media not to provide false views of the people. Politics today is vindictive and revengeful and Goans will not give their opinion on politics but will express their views by voting.”
Meanwhile, GVP general secretary Lyndon Monteiro said that he personally feels that GVP should not merge with UGDP and should protect its identity.
“Through media reports, I have learnt that there is a merger proposal by Mickky Pacheco. We are yet to receive any proposal. Once we receive the same, we will call a meeting and put it to the members and only then there will be a decision,” he added.
