Hacked ICICI Bank ATM did not have CCTV camera

PANJIM: The ICICI Bank ATM at Porvorim from which data on over 30 customers were stolen and Rs 7 lakh was withdrawn, did not have a CCTV camera, which is mandatory as per RBI guidelines, informed Crime Branch Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap.

In the absence of video footage from the ATM, cracking the case has become a bit difficult.
The non-availability of the video footage from the bank has made a slight difficult to crack the case. “Proper video footage is key to tracing the culprit, but in this case there is no footage,” Kashyap said.
Kashyap has informed that the Crime Branch along with senior police officers would hold a meeting with all the banks to recommend them precautionary measures.
Kashyap said that the police would ask the banks to issue a fresh advisory to their customers on how to identify whether an ATM has been hacked.
In past, 50 account holders fell victims to ATM hacking; the cases are being investigated by the Cyber Cell of Crime Branch.
Kashyap has said that all the withdrawals were done physically from various ATM machines across Goa and that the Crime Branch was getting details of all the affected machines and the CCTV footages.
