MARGAO: South Goa Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha on Thursday clarified that he has written a letter with a prayerful request for kind consideration to Prime Minister Narendra Modi with regard to the arrest of late Fr Stan Swamy, SJ, in a case related to the Bhima-Koregaon incident.
He stated the allegation against him that he has done nothing in this matter is totally false and the write up has defamed him.
“Late Fr Stan was arrested, as he was fighting for the cause of the tribal community. Even, press community is afraid of writing against the Modi government fearing the arrest. However, media cannot be blamed as who wants to be behind bars,” he stated.
As evidence, MP presented the letter written to Prime Minister with regard to Fr Stan, and in the letter dated October 13, 2020, it is stated that Fr Stan be released. “Many Christians amongst our community are being framed in cases where they are actually not involved and the best example is Fr Stan who would continue to cooperate with the investigating agencies as he has so far by providing detailed statements in July and August 2020,” the South Goa MP stated.
Sardinha had also brought to the notice of Prime Minister that Fr Stan is suffering from various old related illnesses including Parkinson’s disease and needs regular medical attention.
He also stated that he had done a follow-up with the concerned authorities with regard to Fr Stan.
He said that as responsible MP of Goa, he had raised the issue of coal transportation with the Central government.
“I had written a letter to concerned minister that Goa doesn’t want a coal hub,” Sardinha said.
