Hand back the land to us: Quelossim villagers

The villagers have threatened to take the legal route if the land is not returned by the govt which was taken to be beautified in 1989

Vasco: The villagers of Quelossim opposing the hotel project at Keserval spring have warned they will take recourse to legal action if the Government does not accept their demand.  The villagers have reminded the Government that the land was given to government for beautification and not for a hotel project.
The villagers while handing a memorandum to GTDC opposing the proposed hotel project at Keserval have reminding the Government regarding the flora, fauna and the dependent ecosystem of the village have also informed that of the twenty-eight thousand sqmts of land acquired by PWD in 1989 and handed to GTDC in 2000 now has several settlement lands within. “This land was acquired to protect the spring but conversion of the land has happened which looks to be an open scam” said a village youth Joaquim Fernandes .
Former Dy Sarpanch Vincent Pereira revealed the land was handed to the PWD for beautification back in the days and not for having a hotel project. John Desa said “We will crowd fund and develop the Keserval spring area and we demand that the Government hand back the land to the village. They have not done any good here for the last 30 years and now we will do it rather then allowing a hotel project to take away the sanctity of the spring area.
