VASCO: Following the recent incident of stabbing, the handcarts near the Vasco railway station will likely be shut down by 11 pm.
On Friday night, all the handcart owners who kept their outlets open beyond 10.30 pm were reportedly summoned to the Vasco police station and instructed to close down business by 11 pm to avoid any untoward incidents at night.
Sources said that handcart owners were also questioned by the police over the recent alleged stabbing.
As per the municipal records, there are 112 handcarts in Vasco area, but 35 them are operating without licence. However, locals estimate that more than 250 handcarts are doing business in the municipal area.
Locals suggest that police should intensify night patrolling to prevent fights and untoward incidences in Vasco area, like one that occurred near the Vasco railway station.
On the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday at around 2.30 am, a youth allegedly stabbed another at a handcart near Vasco railway station.
Vasco police had said that, a group of four youth had gone to eat snacks at the handcart. However, the victim was served snacks before the group of four. Annoyed at this, one of the four youth allegedly stabbed the victim Pranav Bharade (25), a resident of Zuarinagar; another youth Mulayam Singh Yadav (24), also from Zurainagar, also sustained injury to his hand.
The arrested accused was identified as Pramod Toraskar from Rumadawada. The other three, namely, Pankaj Naik, Prakash Kambli and Yogesh Pratil were absconding. Vasco police had registered offence under Section 504, 506(ii) & 324 of IPC.
