According to figures tabled on the floor of the House last week, the corporation has purchased various handicrafts articles from the artisans to keep for sale at its various outlets, from March 1, 2012 to June 30, 2014.
It has fetched them a total of Rs 1, 90, 03, 477 during this period. In response to an unstarred question, Industries Minister Mahadev Naik said the 128 artisans regularly supply their crafts to the Corporation. A total of 993 artisans are registered with the GHRSSIDC till date.
To another unstarred question, the minister replied that the Corporation has purchased 115046 items worth Rs 46.33 lakh approximately from local artisans during 2013-14 financial year, while 1101 items worth Rs 27.18 lakh approximately was purchased from artisans outside Goa.
With the handicrafts also in demand internationally, the GHRSSIDC has exported items worth around Rs 4.33 lakh from overall sale of around Rs 1.13 crore in 2013-14.
The corporation also provided subsidy for Rs 55.05 lakh to 498 clay idol makers during this period.
