PANJIM: Goa Government Employees Association has demanded that the government appoint a regular director to head the newly created Directorate of Handicraft, Textiles and Coir.
A delegation of the Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) met Chief Secretary B Vijayan, and requested him to appoint a regular director for the department. The State government had recently de-linked the training cum production centers from the Directorate of Craftsmen Training and created a new Department of Handicrafts, Textiles and Coir.
It had by an order allotted the work pertaining to transfer of assets and liabilities of department of Handicrafts to the Under Secretary, Industries.
and temporary charge of the director of the newly created department.
Department of Handicrafts was given to Aleixo Da Costa, the Director of State Directorate of Craftsmen Training (SDCT) till the regular director is appointed.
GGEA delegation complained to the chief secretary that as per the government order, Costa was to assist the Under Secretary to initiate the process to transfer of existing posts attached to training cum production centres (TCP) to newly created Department of Handicrafts along with assets and liabilities, but instead he allegedly started harassment of the staff of TPC section.
GGEA delegation later met Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza and requested him to either appoint a regular Director for Department of Handicrafts or at least remove the additional charge of Director of DHTC from Costa.
D’Souza gave a patient hearing and assured the delegation that his government is committed to make the Department of Handicrafts functional very soon, says the press communiqué by M L Shetkar, president of GGEA.
