Hardship in Vasco due to bus shortage

KTC chairman says vehicles grounded for want of spare parts

DABOLIM: People from several parts of Vasco have been put to hardship due to an acute shortage of KTC buses, many of which have been stranded in the garage for maintenance and repair works.
The people complained that in the last two weeks, there have been very few KTC buses plying along regular routes.
“Earlier, there were buses after every 20 minutes, but since past two weeks it takes almost an hour for the next bus to arrive,” complained A Godinho from Cortalim.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a KTC driver alleged that about 29 buses have been parked at the garage for repairs and maintenance work. “These buses under repair have caused cancellations of many routes. As many as 10 routes were suspended on December 10 in the morning, but were later resumed in the evening,” said the driver.
The driver further said the routes are expected to shut again on Thursday for the same reason.
“Closure of the route has not only created problems for public, but also for the drivers and conductors, who have to report to the office and then sit idle and go back home.”
