VALPOI: The dairy farmers of Navedar ward in Harvalem on Thursday claimed to have suffered heavy losses on account of cattle deaths due to planting of locally-made crude bombs by unknown persons to kill wild boars.
The farmers claimed that their cattle comprising buffaloes and cows while grazing die immediately after consuming these locally-made crude bombs. The dairy farmers are facing huge losses on account of cattle deaths.
They further claimed that the planting of locally-made crude bombs by unknown persons is going on since the last month.
“For the past five decades, we have been supplying milk to Goa Dairy. We supply 30 litres of milk to Goa Dairy. This business was started by our ancestors and our family is fully dependent on dairy farming. Our cattle get killed after consuming these bombs, which are planted by unknown persons in our village to kill wild boars. We have suffered huge losses due to such incidents. Planting the locally-made crude bombs in the residential areas could prove dangerous to humans,” said Deepraj Thanekar, a farmer.
“Till date two buffaloes have died after consuming the locally-made crude bombs. This is a huge loss for me. Since childhood, I have been into dairy farming which is my family’s primary source of income. Unknown persons are planting such bombs in Navedar for the past many days to kill wild boars due to which we are facing the huge losses,” claimed Laxman Thanekar, another farmer.
“We demand that the Chief Minister punish the guilty and provide financial help to us,” the dairy farmers from Navedar demanded.
