‘Have babas held for rapes studied in convent schools?’

MARGAO: Former PWD Minister Churchill Alemao has slammed the government for pursuing the Hindutva ideology and questioned Lata Dhavalikar’s statement that Western culture and studying in convent schools was responsible for the rise in rape cases.

Churchill sought to know whether babas and religious leaders who were arrested in rape cases across the country in recent times had studied in the convent schools. He also demanded to know why the leaders who were demanding a ban on bikinis on the beaches were quite when a religious leader moved naked on the streets of Margao recently along with political leaders.
“It appears that that concerted attempts are being made to polarise the society in Goa on communal lines. The people of Goa have now realised that they made a mistake by voting the BJP to power. The people had voted this government to power to address their problems and not to pursue the politics of Hindutva and discord”, Churchill said.
On Lata Dhavlikar’s controversial statement that Hindus should not study in convent schools since to avoid being influenced by western culture, Churchill pointed out that senior BJP leader L K Advani had studied in a convent school in Karachi, while reminding that thousands of Hindus, Christians and Muslims get their education in Convent schools across the country. The former PWD Minister also complimented Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar for holding the just concluded Zilla Panchayat polls with the ballot papers. He requested the Chief Minister to ensure that the traditional and full proof ballot papers should be used by the Election Commission in the coming Assembly elections.
