Have lives of Vascoites become expendable, questions MLA

MARGAO: Congress Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco has highlighted the issue of the pollution arising from the low grade coke being transported from the Mormugao Port.

In a letter to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Reginaldo stated, “I have grave concerns regarding the pollution threat posed by alleged low-grade coal/coke imported from Gladstone, Australia at Mormugao Port and presently being discharged from a vessel “Bulk Geneva”. As per my information, the vessel has allegedly carted low-grade and highly dusty coal/coke cargo, which when stacked at the stackyard, may escape into the atmosphere and put the health and lives of the people residing at Vasco and Mormugao in grave peril.”

“Is the arrival of the coal vessel the real reason why the government is hesitating to cordon off/seal Vasco town? Have the lives and health of the Vascokars become expendable,” questioned the Curtorim MLA, who has been vocal on the pollution and environment issues.
