MARGAO: Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva has said that he has petitioned the Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar, who also holds the Home portfolio, to beef up security along Salcete’s coastal belt.

“I have spoken to the Chief Minister after Sunday’s incident and he has promised to dispatch IRB personnel to Colva police station for patrolling. These IRB personnel will conduct patrolling along with the regular personnel,” he said.

Admitting that Colva police is manned by a lone PSI, the Benaulim MLA said that the Chief Minster has promised to send two more PSIs to strengthen the manpower requirements at the police station. “The IRB personnel should hopefully come to Colva in the next few days,” he added.

Caitu said that beach patrolling is necessary in view of incidents of beer consumption on the beach and breaking of bottles by the miscreants. “We have information that people buy liquor from wholesale shops and consume them on the beach. No one has the right to break bottles on the beach,” he added.
