MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to have the hearing on Coastal Zone Management Plan as directed by the National Green Tribunal in a proper manner as the plan will be effective for the next 20 years.
In letters to the CM and Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral, he pointed out that the last hearing held on March 7 was found to be deficient by the NGT as large number of people could not participate and the government had provided incomplete maps to the people besides there being procedural lapses.
“NGT has given some specific instructions to the government which include issuing a notice within a week to hold the hearing within a month of the date of notice issued and to have two venues with adequate capacity,” Aleixo pointed out.
Besides, the NGT has permitted written objections which are to be supplemented at the public hearing and if necessary hold the hearing for more than a day provided the whole process is completed by August 31, 2021.
“I asked Chief Minister and Nilesh Cabral to also incorporate the various suggestions already made by the village panchayats earlier which were not incorporated in the plans taken up for hearing in March.” Reginaldo added.
