VASCO: The BJP-backed Vasco Progressive Panel (VPP) is set to rule the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) from November 11. Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida has claimed that the VPP, which was formed by him and consists of eight members, has the support of the six candidates backed by Mormugao MLA Milin Naik and the candidate backed by Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho. He also claimed that three independents have extended support to VPP and he expects that the two MGP-backed candidates will also offer their support. If he is right, there will be 20 ruling councillors in the 25-member MMC.
“Already Independents Lavina D’ Souza, Dhanpal Swami Kuppaswami and Rajan Fhaldesai have extended support to VPP. As State MPG leaders had assured to support the BJP panels, I am expecting the support of the two MGP-backed councillors Shridhar Mardolkar and Bhavana Nanoskar. We already have the support of Kritesh Gaonkar, who is backed by Mauvin Godinho. I am pretty sure that we will have a new ruling panel of 20 councillors,” said Almieda at a press conference in Vasco to introduce the newly-elected councillors under VPP on Thursday.
