PONDA: Two dangerous trees which posed risks to locals at Veling Priol Cuncoliem were finally cut down much to the relief of locals in the area.
Deputy Sarpanch Rupesh Naik said the trees in ward 8 remained standing precariously till date as the tree cutter had a fall last year and the authorities had not taken any action to remove them.
Naik however said that Rs 25,000 sanctioned by the government to cut down dangerous trees was just not sufficient.
“The Veling Priol Cuncoliem Panchayat has eleven panchas and there are so many dangerous trees around. Each panch is left with Rs 2500 and it is not possible to cut all dangerous trees with this amount as there are too many aged trees that pose danger. There are times we have to spend from our own pockets and therefore the government should increase the tree cutting amount so that we can do justice to our work,” said Naik.
