PANJIM: The Bombay High Court at Goa on Thursday adjourned to April 13, the hearing in the disqualification petition filed by former Congress President Girish Chodankar, pleading directions to the Assembly Speaker to dispose of the petitions pending before him in a time-bound manner.
The advocate representing petitioner Abhijit Gosavi said that the Court adjourned the matter for next week as the Advocate General Devidas Pangam was not present on account of ill health.
Adv Gosavi said that the arguments will continue next week.
In February, Advocate General Devidas Pangam, who represented the Speaker argued that the Speaker has taken a stand that such a direction can never be issued to the Speaker because the Speaker is a Constitutional authority and the courts will not take up a case before the Speaker does or passes any order.
Before that the Special Bench had issued notice to the eight MLAs who had defected from the Congress, last year.
The disqualification petition was filed by Chodankar, before the Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, on November 11, 2022, after the eight Congress MLAs joined the BJP.
