PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa that has been hearing the police-politicians-matka gamblers nexus case sought to know from Crime Branch whether it could probe case of some other agency should do it.
The development comes in response to a status report submitted by the investigation agency in April, based on a petition filed by activist Kashinath Shetye alleging a police-politicians-matka gamblers nexus.
On Thursday, when the matter came up for hearing, the judges asked CB to reply whether they could investigate this case or else the HC will direct a central agency like CBI to probe into it.
Last month, hearing the petition, the court had asked CB to investigate the source of matka numbers and submit a report within two weeks. On Thursday CB failed to submit to court the detail probe of source of the Matka from where it begins.
Last month, the petitioner, alleging the involvement of terror outfits like ISIS, accused Goa Police of deliberately concealing the source of matka numbers. He also suspected that revenue generated from this was pumped for terror activities. CB’s status report to the bench had disclosed details on the action taken every six months, such as raids, arrests and seizures.
