PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay in Goa, directing Crime Branch to file its report within 24 hours, questioned them whether they are capable of solving the matka case or not.
Kashinath Shetye, who filed the petition, pleaded that the investigation be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) alleging that Crime Branch is merely conducting small raids as eyewash.
Crime Branch submitted in the court that they had recently conducted many raids and have booked a number of persons to curb matka gambling. Crime Branch also informed the court that they recently shut down nine matka related websites.
Shetye contended that Crime Branch is merely arresting small agents to create eyewash, as they have failed to trace the source of origin of the matka numbers.
Shetye had filed a PIL alleging that police and politicians were in connivance with matka agents operating in Goa. Following the court’s direction, Crime Branch had registered an FIR against police, politicians and others. The case is presently being monitored by the High Court following allegations by Setye that police are not tracing the source of the matka numbers.
