HC asks GSPCB, MMC to submit ‘pointers’ on Sonsoddo work

PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has asked the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) and Margao Municipal Council (MMC) to submit ‘pointers’ on the processing and disposal process of legacy dump at Sonsoddo. 
The MMC on Thursday submitted to the court that a suitable site has been identified for segregation as well as processing the dump lying at the site for many years.
The site comprises of landfill admeasuring 1,600 sq mtrs. 
MMC added that the Solid Waste Management Corporation will undertake the task. The court adjourned the matter to Friday.
On Wednesday, the High Court Bench of Justices M S Sonak and C V Bhadang had asked the authorities concerned to visit the site on the same evening and identify a site to treat the legacy waste. It had also sought a report in this regard on Thursday. 
The division bench had expressed its concern that the legacy waste has reached an alarming proportion and if not cleared, it will pose serious health risks.
