PANJIM, FEB 28
The High Court Bar Association, Goa on Monday unanimously resolved that selective victimization of Judges be stopped.
The resolution was adopted following a high level meeting in reference to suspension of two Judges – South Goa Additional Sessions Court Judge Desmond D’Costa and Industrial Tribunal Judge Anuja Prabhudesai.
Sources said that copy of the resolution, which includes other issues as well, will be submitted to the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. Association president Advocate Surendra Desai confirmed the meeting but refused to divulge the discussion.
While suspension of the D’Costa, who acquitted serial killer Mahanand Naik in a murder case for want of evidence, sparked protests here with lawyers and social activists seeking ‘justice’ and demanded his re-instatement, Judge Prabhudessai who was suspended in a similar fashion like D’Costa was also rendered full support.
Lawyers’ had boycotted majority of the lower courts for three days and social activists rallied behind the two suspended Judges resolving to fight against the ‘injustice’ meted out to them.
The suspensions have triggered a lot of discontent among people and the legal fraternity.
