PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has issued notice to the State government directing them to fill up vacancies at the Primary Health Centres (PHC) and Community Health Centres (CMC) and have further asked the government to submit a compliance report in three months. The HC was hearing a PIL filed by Advocate Avelon Carvalho.
Carvalho, addressing the media, said PHCs and CHCs in Mapusa, Valpoi and Quepem are lacking in infrastructure and that their condition is very critical as there are no doctors, nurses etc.
“We had filed a PIL in the HC and demanded that doctors, nurses should be appointed and that infrastructure shall be taken care of and maintained,” Carvalho said.
He said that in January the HC had issued a notice to the Goa government asking them to reply on number of vacancies currently filled and the government replied that 64 posts out of 154 have been filled up on temporary basis in PHCs.
The HC then directed the government to fill the vacancies and asked for a status report in three months, so that the burden shifts from Goa Medical College (GMC) to other centres as currently doctors at GMC have to be on 48 hour shifts.
Meanwhile, the HC has issued a notice to the PWD stating that first preference should be given to PWD society boys, whenever a vacancy arises and the recent recruitment drive carried by PWD has not been done through proper process and there have been no approvals and no sanctions.
